Leonard joined the Toronto in the summer after an acrimonious departure from the San Antonio Spurs.
The 27-year-old barely played last season due to injury and it is unclear if he will be ready for the start of the new campaign.
But in a welcome sight for Raptors fans, Leonard has been working out with one of the NBA’s best ever players.
In a picture posted on Instagram by Raptors assistant Phil Handy, Leonard is captured next to a smiling Bryant, a five-time NBA champion.
Handy wrote in the caption: “Working on a few things, #details… @kobebryant. Appreciate you #sharing your #greatness and time. #gainknowledge to #shareknowledge @raptors we are getting ready.”
The Raptors begin their pre-season against the Portland Trail Blazers on September 30 before starting the season against the Cleveland Cavaliers on October 18.
The question of whether Leonard will stay at the franchise after the end of next season is likely to dominate the season.
It’s understood Leonard would like to play his basketball at either the Lakers or Clippers.
But earlier this week, NBA analyst Jalen Rose said Leonard won’t join the Lakers next summer because he doesn’t want to play with LeBron James.
“If Kawhi Leonard does leave Toronto it won’t be for the Los Angeles Lakers,” Rose said on Get Up!
“I think he wouldn’t want to A) play alongside LeBron James because I think that casts a shadow to his personality that he really doesn’t want.
“He came out and said he wanted to play in California and everybody in the media was like ‘he’s going to the Lakers’. He didn’t say that.
“If he leaves Toronto, in my opinion, it’s going to be for the LA Clippers.
“That’s said by the guy who initially told the world in January that situation was fractured between Kawhi Leonard and the San Antonio Spurs.”
